With passion for ART Education
I am so excited to be your new Art Teacher! Please come visit us in the Art Studio (room 107) anytime. My door is always open, whether you’d like to help out, observe, or jump in and make some art with the kids!
Before Teller I taught Art for six years at a K-5 school in southeast Aurora, with Cherry Creek Schools. Congress Park/Cheesman is my neighborhood, so I am thrilled to be working within my community (and to not be spending up to 2 hours in my car everyday!). I switched schools because I wanted to be at Teller. It was the only position I applied for, so I feel lucky to be here, and I hope you will all also feel the match was meant-to-be! I grew up in northeast Nebraska and came to Colorado to study Art History at Colorado College. After pondering careers in non-profit and law I ultimately followed my mother’s lifelong advice and pursued my teaching credentials at Metro State in Denver. My decision has been continually validated as I wake up everyday excited to create with children and continue learning and growing as an educator. This year I was honored by the Colorado Art Educators Association with the “Colorado Elementary Art Teacher of the Year” award. My own work has been focused in drawing and painting, but recently I’ve been doing a lot more textile arts than anything else. Conversely, clay is my favorite thing to teach! But because we don’t have a kiln at Teller (yet), I will only be doing clay workshops after school for now. My partner Jamie Marchbank and I were married this summer and we are proud dog parents: Sadie is a 6.5 lb Chihuahua and Luther is 65 lb rescue mutt. They are always with us, whether rock climbing, hiking, camping or cooking and watching Studio Ghibli movies at home. I proudly participate in many dorky hobbies like reading, yoga, Jazzercise, biking around town and thrift-store-shopping. A mantra of mine has always been: "I am never bored because I am so easily entertained." I am eager to get to know the Teller community and contribute to our collective artful living. |
