Why ART Homework? The more we practice, the more more we learn and grow as artists.
I consider Art class "studio time" where students explore materials and ideas on their own. Objective standards-based grading is pretty tough when students are all working at different levels on different things. Homework allows me to do a quick mini-lesson which students will go home and practice that night. This way I can assess the standards I need to without taking away the valuable explorative work that is at the heart of artistic growth. Here you can find the homework after it has been assigned. You can print it out if you lose or forget the one received in ART. Homework will always be due the next time students have Art (3 school days later) and I will grade it and return it the next time they have Art. Grading: I give a check-, check or check+ for homework (basically equivalent to a 2, 3 & 4), mostly based on effort. If everything is complete and not sloppy, the work receives a check. If everything is completed carefully and with evident care, it receives a check+. Incomplete work receives a check-. Homework never factors heavily into a student's final grade. |
